Spectrum Caches in AVEVA™ Unified Engineering – Browser Access

For each Spectrum Service subscribing projects to an AVEVA™ Unified Engineering – Browser Access tenant environment, 400 GiB of storage is provisioned for project caches, this storage is automatically extended in 400 GiB increments when Spectrum Project Caches occupy more than 75% of available storage space.
A fair usage policy exists on this storage, refer to the Unified Engineering Service Description for limits and additional charge details.

The extend process normally takes a few minutes but can take a few hours depending on the underlying infrastructure changes being applied.

Note also that consecutive extend processes can only be performed once every six hours.

Without careful planning, consideration of project sizes and subscription timings, it is possible that storage becomes fully occupied whilst an expand is in process.

Fully occupied Spectrum Project Cache storage will result in the following user symptoms for all Spectrum projects subscribed to the AVEVA™ Unified Engineering – Browser Access tenant environment for a Spectrum solution:

  • Read only

  • No claim functionality

  • No save work functionality.

  • Updates from other locations\sites will not be seen.

These symptoms will persist until the storage has been expanded sufficiently to provide free storage space. Users may need to exit and relaunch the Unified Engineering application within their streamed desktop session to regain full functionality, potentially losing work in that session.

For these reasons, as an Administrator you should guard against fully occupied Spectrum Project Cache storage.
For example, avoid subscribing one or more projects in any six-hour period that have an aggregate size of more than 90GiB.

Note: The size of a spectrum Project is the same as the size it would be as a classic Dabacon project on a network file system.

In situations where this cannot be avoided, or if you have any doubts, you can contact AVEVA Support to request information on the current available and occupied storage space, or to proactively arrange a storage extension..
