You can adjust the visibility of the grid and compass by changing settings in the the APM module configuration file (cfg_apm.xml).
To show or hide grid and compass

In the Project Explorer, expand Config Files.

Double-click the cfg_apm.xml to open it, so you can edit the values.

Select or clear the checkboxes for showGrid and showCompass.
