Create a Layer3D object

A 3D Layer can group together a list of entities and give them the same behavior.

These instructions show you how to create an isolation layer for the Control Panel group.

To create a 3D Layer

  1. Click Add in the upper left of the Graphic Context Editor.

The Select Content to Add dialog opens.

  2. Expand the Misc category and select Layer3d.

  3. In the Layer field, enter a name (layer_0) for the layer and click Add.

Note Names are case sensitive. Layer_0 is not the same as layer_0.

After the Layer3D has been created, it is automatically selected, and its fields will display.

  4. Click the ellipses symbol to populate the meshes field.

  5. On the Select Multiple Nodes of type dialog box, select the mesh objects you want to include in the layer.

Here, we are adding the mesh objects for the first discovery group Control Panel. Notice how the mesh objects are consistently named.

  6. Use the filter to help find similarly named mesh objects. For example, search for cp_.

Configure the layer_sampleAsset by selecting the top-level dummy object and also the top-level dummy object for the markers, and setting the useLocalTransform field.

Notes

  • The layer_sampleAsset node contains object nodes instead of mesh nodes. There is an object for the whole machine, and for the markers.

  • Make sure to populate the objects field and not the meshes field. This is needed to avoid showing any 3D objects when the solution goes into AR mode.

  • Set useLocalTransform to true only for this layer, not for the others used to setup Discovery.

  • The top level parent or dummy object is setup in the 3D model as container of all the other asset 3D objects, otherwise the AR functionality will not work as expected.
