Data selection defines the data that the adapter reads from the data source. Configure data selection to specify the items, groups, or filters that determine which source data the adapter processes and makes available for use.

When initially setting up data selection, you can perform a data discovery or import data using a JSON or CSV file. Data discovery identifies available data, such as available assets or tag, so you can quickly find and evaluate data for analysis, integration, or configuration.
To discover available data:
-
Select the Data Discovery tab to open the Data Discovery window.
Note: Data discovery is not available for the Modbus TCP adapter. You must import the data selection information into the utility to configure data selection. See Import data selection for details.

-
Select Add Discovery.

-
On the Data Discovery pane, you have three optional choices when adding the discovery. They can be entered together as a combination.
-
You can enter the ID of the discovery. If one is not included, the adapter automatically generates one.
-
You can limit the scope of the discovery by entering a Query specific to the data source.
-
You can select the Auto Select check box to automatically adds all items found during discovery to data selection.
-
-
Select Start Discovery to begin discovering available data.
When the discovery process is completed, the Status column indicates whether discovery succeeded or failed.

Select an item to review the details of the discovery. You can export your discovery results as a JSON or .csv file by selecting
or delete all of the items (
).
-
After discovery is complete, you can select Next to move to add Egress Endpoints or you can select the Data Selection tab to review the discovery items.
Note: Data selection is only modified by discoveries that that have the Auto Select turned on.

On the Data Selection window, select an item to review the details. You can also search for a specific data selection item, export your data selection results as a JSON or .csv file, or delete all of the items. Use the drop-down box at the bottom of the table to increase the number of rows displays.
