A BI Gateway model is a formal representation of the Data Sources, Dimensions, and Measures that are collectively called BI Gateway "objects." The BI Gateway model also represents the relationships and configurations of the BI Gateway objects.
A BI Gateway model is independent of any database schema and is optimized for manufacturing intelligence. The BI Gateway model:
-
Consists of three types of objects: Data Source, Dimension, and Measure.
-
Contains measures typically representing quantitative aggregate operational data.
-
Contains dimensions typically representing context for the measures.
-
Defines relationships between the dimensions and the aggregated measures and how they map to the data sources.
You can create and maintain a BI Gateway Model with the BI Gateway Model Builder. This is a web application that allows you to build a BI Gateway Model by creating data sources, dimensions and measures, and configuring each of those objects. Model Builder also displays the relationships between the objects using a dynamic and interactive graphical representation of all the objects in the model. You can export the BI Gateway model to a file; similarly, you can import a model from a previously generated model file. Finally, you can deploy your BI Gateway model so that the Intelligence Service starts executing your configured model to save data into the BI Gateway Data Store.
NOTE: The BI Gateway Model Builder replaces the use of the IDE objects and eliminates the need to use ArchestrA IDE.
The BI Gateway model defines the dimensions and measures from one or more data sources as per mapping rules.

For more information about the Dimensions, see "Dimensions".
For more information about the Measures, see "Measures".
