Project Configuration

Project configurations can be created, modified and saved using the Project Configuration menu. Stop and restart GCS for the configurations to take effect.

Project

Specifies the AVEVA E3D Design project code.

MDB

Specifies the AVEVA E3D Design Multiple Database (MDB) name.

User Name

Specifies the AVEVA E3D Design project user name.

Password

Specifies the AVEVA E3D Design project user name password.

Server Number

Specifies the number of E3D server instances used when creating the cache (more servers may be needed for larger baselines).

Poll Interval (sec)

Specifies the interval, in seconds, between polling for database changes.

Include Elements

A PML expression of elements to be included in baseline.

For example, /E1301, ALL SITE.

Multiple expressions can be input on separate lines.

Save and Close

Saves the configuration information and starts the GCS.

The system stores configuration information for each project in an xml file at the following location:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\AVEVA\ARFCacheProjects

When GCS starts, each project is polled at regular intervals for Get Work changes. GCS only adds to the cache changes which affect the graphics.

GCS encrypts the saved password. You can also use an NT Authenticated (active directory) project.

Cache Storage

Caches are stored in a separate GCS Cache directory below the project directory.

For Spectrum projects, the system stores the cache in the Spectrum project folder on the Edge Connector.

The system stores the baseline cache in the cache0 directory (this should be the largest cache created for the project) followed by a sequence of smaller delta caches.

Create a New Baseline

It may be necessary to create a new baseline if, for example, the number of caches becomes too large, the model has changed significantly or there has been a catalogue change which affects the spatial map. To do this:

  1. Stop the GCS, either by ending the AVEVA Unified Engineering task if one has been scheduled, typing Ctrl C in the GCS console, or stopping the AVEVA Unified Engineering process.

  2. Reconfigure projects (if necessary).

  3. Delete the GCDCache project directory.

  4. Restart the GCS.

When you restart the service, a new baseline is created and each project is polled for changes.
