Licensing Requirements for AVEVA Unified Engineering

Before using the software, you must have the required licenses. You can manage the licences through AVEVA Licensing as a Service (LaaS) or the AVEVA Licensing System.

AVEVA Licensing as a Service

AVEVA Licensing as a Service (LaaS) is a Cloud-based licensing system For more information about LaaS and how to use it, see CONNECT Licensing.

Before you can use LaaS to license the products, you must be a user in your organization's CONNECT account. Contact your organization's CONNECT Account Administrator to add you as a user. After you have been added as a user, you can start using LaaS to license the products.

If you want to use LaaS to license any product, while installing the product, you must specify the CONNECT URL for the License Config page. While starting the product, you will be prompted to provide your username and password. You can use the product only after the license is validated for the user.

AVEVA Graphical Changes Service runs in tty mode, therefore the CONNECT User Interface does not display. Tokens must be setup before using the Credential Manager.

AVEVA Flex Licensing

AVEVA Flex licensing provides customers with the flexibility to adjust where credits are charged for their usage. The customer agrees to a Flex/Connect agreement. The agreement outlines the number of credits purchased and the contract period available for the credits to be consumed, which can be used to access both on-premises and Cloud/SaaS products.

During the contract period, the customer consumes products and services with credits charged based on the rate plan. Both AVEVA and customer users can track the usage within CONNECT.

For example, for any CONNECT account, the Flex agreement is created and based on the requirement of the customer. Credits are assigned to be utilized and the required products are added to that account. When users start consuming the products accordingly, the credits are utilized as per the agreement. On the server machine creating the caches, an AVEVA Unified Engineering license is taken out to:

• Configure the Graphical Changes Service by the Graphical Changes Services Configuration.

• Monitor a project for graphical changes by the Graphical Changes Service.

A AVEVA Unified Engineering license is taken out to:

• Build the caches for a project using the GCD Builder.

On a given server with AVEVA Unified Engineering installed, GCS can be configured to monitor one or more projects so many monitor and builder processes will be created, each taking out an AVEVA Unified Engineering license. For a seat based licensing model using a single server, there would be no additional licenses required, unless the maximum number of instances is exceeded. If more than one server is used, each server will require a license. On a given server there would also be one or more instances of GCD Builder running and creating caches. Again, as these are all running on the same machine with seat based licensing model, only a single AVEVA Unified Engineering would be required.

AVEVA Licensing System

To operate, AVEVA software must be able to access the correct AVEVA Licensing System file, which should be installed on either the Server, on the users workstation, or on a networked workstation.
