Add an instance RDP rule

  • Last UpdatedApr 09, 2026
  • 2 minute read

To permit access to instances using remote desktop protocol (RDP), first add an RDP rule for each IP address or an IP address range for multiple users.

The added IP addresses must be public so that the IP addresses can access the instance. You may define up to 800 IP addresses or IP address ranges per instance.

In some cases, your network configuration may prohibit the IP address. Contact your IT department or your ISP for guidance.

Add an instance RDP rule

  1. On the Project Templates page, expand a project template.

    Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

  2. SelectEmbedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)for the instance to configure and then select Instance RDP rules.

  3. (Optional) Modify the Name of the rule to make it easier to identify.

The default name is userid_random id, but you may change it.

  4. (Optional) Enter the IP address/range of the user(s) to gain access to the instance.

Note: If you define a range, it is more secure to limit it to only the required IP addresses, not the entire range of addresses.

  5. Select Add.

The rule Status starts as Configuring, but changes to Configured after you add an RDP rule.

For more details, see Understand the status of RDP rules.

  6. Select Close.
