Enable multiple network interface cards (NIC)s

To enable multiple NICs in a VM

  1. Create a new project template.

  2. Select the Enable multiple NICs option on each node (VM).

  3. Launch a new instance.

Note that you cannot enable the multiple NIC feature on existing nodes (VMs)

When you enable multiple NICs on a node, the system creates a primary and a standby NIC to create connection redundancy. The sections below detail the behavioral differences when connecting with a browser or with an RDP.

Browser

If you enable the multi-NIC feature and you use the browser link:

  1. The system tries to use the primary NIC first.

  2. If this fails, the system uses the secondary NIC.

  3. If the secondary NIC also fails, then an error message appears.

    RDP

If you enable the multi-NIC feature and you use the RDP:

    1. Download both the primary RDP and the secondary RDP file.

RDP files do not switch to their alternative RDP in case of failure.

    2. Try to connect with the primary RDP file.

    3. If this fails, try to connect to the secondary RDP file.

If the connection to the secondary RDP file also fails, then the node status changes and the following message appears on the Nodes page after 10-20 minutes.

Network adapters disabled. Start and then restart the node to re-enable.

    4. If both NICs are unavailable, this is how you can re-enable both the NICs.

      1. Stop the node.

      2. Restart the node.

    5. If it still does not work, there may be an error preventing the connection. Check Troubleshoot Instances and then contact AVEVA Customer Support.
