The Toolbar

Button

Name

Description

Backward

The application automatically saves the camera position every time a user performs certain actions, like rotating or panning the model.

The Backward tool can be used to navigate back through previous camera positions

Forward

The application automatically saves the camera position every time a user performs certain actions, like rotating or panning the model.

The Forward tool can be used to step forwards through saved camera positions

Reset

Reset the camera posture to the be the same of the one set at model loading time.

Focus

If a selection is present, moves the camera to keep the current rotation while encompassing all the selected tags.

Orbit

Orbit navigation mode:

Left-mouse drag:

When an item is under the mouse cursor, orbit the point under the mouse

When nothing is selected and the mouse cursor is over a model bounding box, orbit around the point on the bounding box under the mouse

In all other cases, orbit happens on a point under the mouse cursor that belongs to an ideal plane passing through model centre and is parallel to the view

Middle-mouse drag:

When an item is under the mouse cursor, pan on the point under the mouse

When nothing is selected and the mouse cursor is over a model bounding box, pan on the point on the bounding box under the mouse

In all other cases, pan happens on a point under the mouse cursor that belongs to an ideal plane passing through model centre and is parallel to the view

Right-mouse drag: Rotate around self

Mouse-wheel scroll:

When an item is under the mouse cursor, zoom to/from the point under the mouse

When nothing is selected and the mouse cursor is over a model bounding box, zoom to/from the point on the bounding box under the mouse

In all other cases, zoom happens to/from a point under the mouse cursor that belongs to an ideal plane passing through model centre and is parallel to the view

Fly

Fly navigation mode:

Left-mouse drag:

Move forwards through the model at fixed speed, speed can be increased or decreased while moving by scrolling the mouse-wheel.

If mouse is shifted from initial position, a rotation is applied, magnitude of the rotation is proportional to the distance of the mouse cursor from initial click position. For instance, shifting left the mouse would apply a rotation toward the left of the camera, while keeping the constant forward movement.

Middle-mouse drag, Right-mouse drag and Mouse-wheel scroll behavior are the same of Orbit mode (see above).

Walk

Walk navigation mode:

Left-mouse drag:

Move forwards and backwards through the model at a fixed elevation, using the cursor to steer left and right. Velocity is determined by how far the cursor is dragged up/down the screen.

Middle-mouse drag:

Shift the camera toward the drag direction at a fixed speed.

Right-mouse drag:

Rotate around self

Mouse-wheel scroll is disabled in this navigation mode

The Teleport icon can be used to set a starting position 1.8m above any surface.

ClipBox

The Clip tool isolates the selected element by creating a 6-plane clipping box around it. The sides of the clipping box can be dragged to modify the clipping volume.

Note that this tool is only active when an item is selected.

When a selection is clipped, a Hide button is displayed allowing the visibility of the clipping box to be toggled on and off.

Section

The Section tool takes a 3-plane slice out of the model. Each plane can be selected and dragged to change the position of the section.

When the Section tool is active, a Hide button is displayed allowing the visibility of the section planes to be toggled on and off.

Measure

The Measure tool displays the distance between selected points in the scene.

When active a side bar menu appears providing access to the following measure tools:

Point to Point. When active, clicking on any geometry allows to create a measure point. Adding the second point automatically closes the tool and creates a point-to-point measurement in the scene, displaying the distance between two consecutively placed points in the model.

Path. When active, clicking on any geometry allows to create a measure point. By clicking on the next to the latest point added (from third point on) automatically closes the tool and creates a path measurement in the scene, displaying the distance between each consecutively placed points in the model.

Delete. When this mode is active, select an existing measure label, line or point to remove it from the view.

Units. Toggle between metric (m, cm) and imperial (ft, in) units. Note that changing units only affects selected/pinned and subsequent measurements.

Lock. Allows measure lines to be optionally constrained to the horizontal plane or the vertical axis.

  • No lock - Draw measure lines on all the axes.

  • Vertical lock - Draw a measure line only on the vertical axis

  • Horizontal lock - Draw a measure line only on the horizontal plane.

Delete All. Removes all measurements from the view.

Annotations

Clicking on this button makes the application enter the annotation mode:

A screenshot of the current view is produced and used as a background, meaning that wile annotating navigation is not allowed.

When in annotation mode the toolbar shows the following buttons:

FreeHand: when selected it allows to create a free hand drawing in the markup by left-mouse dragging over the canvas

Text: when selected it allows to create a text box by left clicking on the canvas. Text can be added after creation by simply typing on keyboard while the annotation text element is selected. Please note that on mobile devices the system keyboard is not shown, so entering or editing a text is not possible.

Callout: when selected it allows to create a callout by left clicking on the canvas. Text can be added after creation by simply typing on keyboard while the annotation element is selected. Please note that on mobile devices the system keyboard is not shown, so entering or editing a text is not possible.

Delete: if clicked with a currently selected annotation, it deletes it directly. If there’s no current selection active it stays active until an annotation is selected by left-click on it and deletes it.

Line: when selected it allows to create a line drawing in the markup by left-mouse dragging from start to end over the canvas

Arrow: when selected it allows to create an arrow drawing in the markup by left-mouse dragging from start to end over the canvas

Rectangle: when selected it allows to create a rectangle drawing in the markup by left-mouse dragging from start to end of a diagonal over the canvas

Circle: when selected it allows to create an ellipse drawing in the markup by left-mouse dragging from start to end of the diagonal of the enclosing area over the canvas

Shape: when selected it allows to create a cloud shape drawing in the markup by left-mouse dragging from start to end of the diagonal of the enclosing area over the canvas

Exit: clicking on this button would make the application exit annotation mode. Please note that annotations are not persisted during the session by the viewer, persistence is provided by the consumer solutions.

Visibility

Visual operations on current selection are grouped here:

Hide. Removes the currently selected objects from the scene.

Isolate. Removes all elements except the currently selected objects from the scene.

Show All. Redisplays all previous hidden objects.

Translucent: Makes selected geometries translucent

Reset: if nothing is selected resets all material changes in scene to their original values, if something is selected it resets the material of the selection to its original state.

View

The Views tool displays a popup menu giving access to tools that affect the appearance of the model in the display.

X-Ray: Turn X-Ray view on/off. Turns the model translucent, making highlighted objects more visible.

Shadows: Turn Shadows on/off. Disabling shadows can help make dark areas of the model more visible. Please note that shadows have a high computation cost, enabling them can lead to performance issues, especially on low-end clients. For this reason, it’s disabled by default.

Options

Application and rendering settings are grouped here:

Decimation: When enabled, this option temporarily reduces the detail of the 3D model while the user navigates. This helps provide smoother navigation, especially on low-end client machines where rotation performance is slow.

Render: sets the render quality by establishing a triangles budget for the scene. The possible options in the round-robin are (in ascendent quality): VLOW, LOW, MID, HIGH, ULTRA.

Dome: sets the background dome. The possible options in the round-robin are:

01 -> Greyscale dome

02 -> Earth and Sky dome

03 -> Sea and Sky dome

04 -> Flat blue (default)

Other controls

Teleport

The Teleport icon can be dragged onto any surface in the 3D model to position the camera at height of 1.8m above that surface.

Adaptive toolbar and supported window resolutions

The 3DVis toolbar (Pill menu) dynamically adapts based on screen resolution. Collapsing group of buttons based on screen resolution.
