Requirements for using OSM Database Tools

Software requirements

To use OSM Database Tools, you must have:

• Access to the Oracle database

• Access to the OSM application

• Privileges to execute PowerShell commands and scripts

Oracle version

The Oracle version must be the supported version for the OSM release, as stated in the AVEVA™ Operational Safety Management Installer Guide.

Oracle Instant Client

The OSM Database Tools installer will install Oracle Instant Client as part of its installation.

OSM application version

The OSM application must be the same major/minor version as OSM Database Tools.

For example:

• OSM Database Tools 11.2.1.0 will work with OSM application 11.2.1.1.

• However, OSM Database Tools 11.1.0.0 will not work with OSM application 11.2.0.0.

  Note: The same version requirement does not apply to the Upgrade tool, which will upgrade from one major version to another.

PowerShell

In earlier versions, DB Tools was using the Cmd window when executing database scripts. From version 11.2.1, the DB Tools will use the PowerShell window when executing scripts. This requires that the user running DB Tools has the privileges to execute PowerShell commands and scripts.
