Increase digits in auto numbering

This operation allows you to change the number of digits on an entity, including instances of the entity going forward, and old instances of the entity. Old work items will be renumbered to include the new number of digits.

An entity has a given number of digits that are used when a number is generated for a work item (for example, a work permit). You can increase (but not reduce) the number of digits used by an entity. Digits appear after the prefix of the number (WP-).

For example:

WP-99999

When this operation is performed, an existing number on a work item will get one or more digits zero (0) added in the first positions of its number.

For example:

WP-099999 or WP-0099999

Requirements

  • Only entities that support auto numbering can have the number of digits changed.

  • Database must be in upgrade mode and therefore no users can be connected.

Guidelines

  • All triggers regarding selected entity will automatically be disabled and then re-enabled during this operation.

  • No recovery is possible.

Increase digits in auto numbering

  1. Select Increase digits in auto numbering radio button on left side of screen.

  2. Enter the name of the entity and total new number of digits. For example: wmm_workpermit and 8. The maximum possible number of total digits is 15.

  3. Select Change numbers button to perform the operation.

A confirmation dialog appears asking you if you want to proceed.

  4. Click Yes to perform operation.

Another message displays saying this will take some time. This operation can take time because all work items for selected entity are being renumbered in the database. When operation is complete, you will see message at bottom of screen.
