This procedure explains how to install AVEVA PI System Connector 3 (PSC3) on a Windows system. Before installing, see Prepare for PI System Connector installation to ensure that all connector-specific installation requirements have been met.

If you are migrating from PI System Connector 2.5.x, see Migrate to PI System Connector 3 for additional information before installing the connector.

Note: You must be signed in to a Windows account with administrator privileges.

To install the connector:

  1. Locate the directory where you downloaded the PSC3 installation kit (3.0.0.210).

  2. Double-click the installation kit.

You may be prompted by a User Account Control message to allow the installation to run. Select Run to proceed with the installation.

  3. Set the extraction path for the installation files and select OK.

  4. The Welcome window lists installed software and any components that require upgrading. If there are missing prerequisites during the upgrade, the installation fails.

  5. Install and configure all required software using the installation wizard.

The setup program installs the prerequisite software and opens the connector installation wizard to guide you through connector configuration choices.

  6. Select the component to install (Connector or Broker).

    PSC3 component selection window

  7. Select a service account (NT SERVICE\PSC3.Connector or Specific user) and select Next.

If you select NT SERVICE\PSC3.Connector, the installation wizard automatically adds the connector service account to the PI Connector Administrators group

    Windows Service Configuration window (PSC3)

If you select a specific user, you must enter a valid domain\username and password.

Windows Service Configuration - Specific user window

  8. Select Install to begin the installation.

  9. When the installation is complete, select Finish to close the installer.

If connector installation is not successful, see Troubleshoot installation.

Note: Catalog files are separate downloadable files and are used for application verification. If you use allowlisting, install the catalog files associated with your AVEVA products to ensure that those products function as intended. Windows catalog files that have been digitally signed by AVEVA can be used as a digital signature for 3rd party and other unsigned components installed by AVEVA setup kits. This facilitates a trusted way to verify these components and may be used for allowlisting purposes.
