Migrate to PI System Connector 3

The Migration tab provides tools and guidance to help transition existing configurations from PI System Connector 2 (PSC2) to the AVEVA PI System Connector 3 (PSC3). It supports planning and validating migration activities by highlighting pre-migration considerations, configuration mappings, and post-migration verification to ensure a smooth upgrade while preserving data consistency and system behavior.

Prior to initiating the migration, it is essential to complete the Migration prerequisites procedure.

  1. After completing the prerequisites, use Select to locate the Migration folder. This populates the PSC2 Connector list.

For a folder location to be valid, it must contain the exact files outlined in the Migration prerequisites. When a valid path is selected, the system populates the Datasource Count, PI Point Found, and Global PI Point Prefix fields based on the contents of the folder.

Note: If an invalid folder location is selected, an error message displays.

  2. At the Connector to Migrate list, select the PSC2 connector you want to migrate.

The names listed in the PSC2 connector list should match the names of the connectors registered to the Data Collection Manager (DCM) in the PSC2 environment. Because the migration utility exists within one instance of PSC3, only one connector from the DCM can be migrated per PSC3 instance.

  3. Select the application (Broker or PI System) where the data will be sent. See Configure the connector for additional information.

  4. Select a PSC3 Destination from the drop-down field. All data passing through the PSC3 connector, whether it is set up to transmit data to a broker or a PI System, arrives at this destination.

  5. Select Convert and then Apply Changes to finish the migration process.

Sending data to a broker

If the connector sends data directly to a PI System, no further action is needed after the initial migration. However, when the connector sends data through a Broker, additional configuration steps are required to complete the migration and re-establish the full data flow.

  1. From the Migration folder, copy the generated broker.config file from the migration folder to the Broker machine.

Regardless of whether there is a single broker or multiple brokers in a chain, only the last Broker in the data path requires this file, as it is the only Broker whose settings need to be transferred from PI System Connector 2.

  2. On the General tab of the AVEVA PI System Connector 3: Broker Configuration window, select Import PSC2 Migration File and choose the broker.config file.

  3. After the import is complete, select Apply Changes.

    Verify migration and complete setup

After the migration is complete, verify the configuration.

    • Check that the Overview tab (refer to Create a data source) and the Shared Data Source Options tabs in the Connector UI correspond to the settings from PSC2.

    • Verify the connector or broker responsible for sending data to the destination PI System has their Destination tab fully configured.

If the connector sends data directly to a PI System, select Start Connector in the Overview tab to begin immediately using the connector.

If a broker is used, complete the required broker configuration tasks as described in the Destination Configuration, Certification Configuration, and Broker Configuration sections.
