PI System Connector 3

Health points

AVEVA PI System Connector 3 (PSC3) exposes a set of health points that provide real-time visibility into the operational state of the Connector and Broker.

Health points are implemented as Windows Performance Counters and are registered under the PSC3 Health Data performance counter category, allowing them to be monitored using standard Windows tools. Health points are created automatically during installation and are updated while the associated service is running.

Each health point is updated on a periodic timer controlled by the Health Update Interval configuration setting, which defaults to 5 seconds. In addition, a dedicated heartbeat counter updates independently on a fixed five second cycle to provide a simple indication that the connector service is running and responsive. Together, these counters help users observe connector health during normal operation without modifying configuration.

Health points do not require user configuration to function and are registered automatically during installation. They are intended to be observed using standard monitoring tools, providing continuous visibility into connector health without impacting data collection or connector behavior.

Health points can be viewed using the following:

  • PI Interface for Performance Monitor

If you have the PI Interface for Performance Monitor installed, you can add the PSC3 Health Data counters to your monitoring configuration.

  • Performance Monitor (perfmon)

Open the perfmon executable (perfmon.exe), add counters, and select the PSC3 Health Data category.
