Configure the connector

This section explains how to set up and manage the AVEVA PI System Connector 3 (PSC3) after installation by using the PSC3 user interface.

From this interface, you can register the connector, define and manage data sources, start or stop data collection, and verify connectivity and data flow. The interface provides visibility into the connector’s operational state and is the primary interface for configuring and monitoring the connector.

There are two primary ways of configuring PSC3:

• Configure the connector to send data to a destination PI System. If the connector is configured to send data to a PI System, then no broker configuration is required.

• Configure the connector to send to a broker, which will then forward that data to a PI System or another broker.

First, determine whether the connector needs to transfer data across one or more DMZs. A broker is the best fit if you are sending data through a network DMZ or if multiple data handoffs is a requirement. If an environment contains multiple data handoffs across DMZs, you can chain brokers together to accommodate each transfer.

Note: PSC3 supports chaining up to three brokers. While PSC3 can connect more than three brokers in a chain, limit the chain to a maximum of three brokers to reduce the latency risk.
