Add a global RDP rule

  • Last UpdatedDec 18, 2025

You can add a global RDP rule for an IP address or an IP address range for multiple users. The RDP rule that you define here is configured and automatically added to all existing instances and to new instances you create.

Note: The IP addresses that you define must be public. If the IP address or IP address range you define is not public, then the IP(s) cannot access the instance. Define up to 20 IP addresses or IP address ranges per instance.

To add a global RDP rule

  1. On the Global RDP Rules page, enter the IP address/range to receive access to all existing and new instances.

  2. Select Add.

  3. When prompted to confirm, select Add.

The rule appears as GlobalRDPRule_xxx on the instance RDP Rules page.

Troubleshoot internet service providers (ISPs) that issue dynamic IP addresses

Your public IP address is governed by your ISP. Your ISP may issue a static IP address or a dynamic IP address. If the IP address is dynamic, then the connection to your VM may fail if your ISP generates a new IP address for you.

If this happens, delete your RDP rule each time your IP address changes and then add the rule again with the new IP address.
