Linked communications

Communications can be linked in AVEVA Contract Risk Management for two primary purposes:

  • To signify that they are somehow related; a group of related communications comprise a story that can be used to track historical information about a particular issue. See View communication stories.

A communication related to another in a story can be marked as its formal reply, to satisfy a response required obligation. See Respond to a communication for more information.

  • To create a financial association that signifies they belong to the same financial business process. A financial association is also known as a process chain link.

In a process chain link, the communications are designated as the predecessor and successor. The link can be created from either communication (except for communications which record progress or expenditure calculated from progress).

The communication register shows which communications have been linked by the fa-link icon in the Stories column.

You can only link two communications when:

  • You create a reply communication. The communications are automatically added to a story, and if appropriate, a process chain link is created. See Create related communications.

Note You cannot create related communications from progress communications.

  • You create a communication that supports both progress and expenditure - such as an Application for Payment - and select the associated progress communications. The expenditure values are calculated for the expenditure communication based on the progress claimed for in the progress communications. These values cannot be edited. See Frequently asked questions: How are the claimed values of line items in expenditure communications calculated from the associated progress communications? for more information about how calculations are done.
