View expression builder

With the Expression Builder, you can easily construct expressions and evaluate to view the results. You can also launch from the Data Source tab, Dataset tab, or Columns tab wherever the sigma icon (Σ) is shown for a property.

After you select this icon Σ, the Expression Builder pop-up appears as shown below, where the left navigation pane shows all the columns related to the selected Dataset, and the right navigation pane displays all the functions. The Expression box in the middle section is used to construct the expression, and the Preview box below displays the evaluated result.

You can search for functions using either their names or aliases. To learn more about a specific function, select the information icon to view a brief description and an example for that function.

1. When you select the plus (+) icon for a function or column, it is inserted at the cursor position.

2. Select in the Expression box where you want to insert it,

3. Select the plus icon to add the selected column or function at that location.

   

After constructing the expression, you can use the Compile button to check for syntax errors and the Evaluate button to test the expression with sample data and review the result in Preview box.

If you are satisfied with the result, select the Apply button to assign the expression to the selected property.
