A degree day, also known as a heating degree day, is the number of degrees that the average daily temperature is below a specified reference (usually 65ºF). If the temperature is above the reference, the degree day is zero. Note: The higher the number is, the colder the weather is. Therefore, more residential furnaces will run, and more gas will be needed.
