ETAP

The ETAP data can be viewed in AVEVAEngineering using AVEVA™ Integration Service (Service). For this, the ETAP project file (in the form of an XML file) must be made available to the Service. The project file can be located anywhere on the network drive; however it must be accessible to the user logged on to the Service. The Service reads the project file and applies the specified mappings for the components and attributes so that the data can be displayed in AVEVAEngineering.

Note: If you have ETAP 19.0.1, data can be transferred only to AVEVAEngineering 15.2 using AVEVA™ Integration Service 1.6.0.1 or later. Data transfer from ETAP 19.0.1 to earlier versions of AVEVAEngineering is not supported.

The Service extracts data from the project file, for example <ETAP_Project_File>.xml, that contains data related to an ETAP project. The Service also uses the following files while retrieving and transforming data before displaying it in AVEVAEngineering:

Note: You can modify the files according to your need and based on how you want to view the data in AVEVAEngineering.

  • ETAPAttribute.xml: This file contains the list of ETAP components and their attributes. The Service retrieves data for only those components and attributes that are listed in the file available at the configured location.

  • ETAPImportTrans.xslt: The mappings specified in this file are used to transform the ETAP data for AVEVAEngineering. The Service applies only those mappings that are specified in the file available at the configured location.

  • ValueValidation.xml: This file contains the list of attribute validations used by ETAP. You can use any of the validations in the ETAPImportTrans.xslt file to filter the data based on the validation.

Note: If the files are not available at the configured location at the time of retrieving data, the E_File_Not_Found code is returned, or, if are retrieving the data from Integration Client, an error message is displayed. Also, a log message listing the missing file(s) is logged to the log file. For more information about the ETAPAttribute.xml and ValueValidation.xml files and their contents, refer to the documentation of ETAP.

The following prerequisites must be met before the ETAP data can be viewed in AVEVAEngineering:

  • ETAP is configured as a data source in AVEVAEngineering and a Compare/Update configuration for ETAP is added. For information on how to add ETAP as a data source in AVEVAEngineering and how to add the Compare/Update configuration, refer to the documentation of AVEVAEngineering.

  • <ETAP_Project_File>.xml file is available for the required project and is accessible.

  • ETAP is added as a data source in Integration Settings Editor. The procedure to add the ETAP data source to Integration Settings Editor is given below.

To add the ETAP data source in Integration Settings Editor:

  1. Start Integration Settings Editor.

  2. From the Select Product list, select ETAP. The Module Name list displays ETAP.

  3. Click Add Configuration. The ETAP dialog box is displayed.

  4. In the Project box, enter a name for the data source.

  5. In the Import Data Folder box, click Browse to browse to a location where the <ETAP_Project_File>.xml file is located.

Note: The location mentioned in the Import Data Folder box is the configured location for the data source.

  6. In the Import File Name box, type the name of the file which contains the project data.

  7. Click Add. The data source with the specified project name, file and location is added to the Integration Settings Editor window.

  8. Click Save to save the data source. The ETAP data source is now added to Integration Settings Editor.

After all the prerequisites have been met, the data from the <ETAP_Project_File>.xml file can be viewed in the Compare/Update grid in AVEVAEngineering. For more information about how to view the data in the Compare/Update grid, refer to the documentation of AVEVAEngineering.
