New features and enhancements
These new features and enhancements were added:
-
AIS 4.1 introduces support for customer-provided encryption keys to protect sensitive data source parameters, including server details, file paths, and usernames. Rather than relying on a system-managed key, you can now supply your own encryption password, giving you greater control over the security of your data. Upon upgrading, the Web Admin service automatically migrates all previously encrypted values to the new encryption format at startup — no manual intervention is required.
Important: Ensure that your encryption password is saved securely. This password is required if you migrate your data sources in a future version of AIS.
-
AIS 4.1 now supports running the AIS Application Pool Identity using a non-administrator Active Directory user account. This improvement aligns with the principle of least privilege, reducing security risk by ensuring the AIS service operates with only the permissions it needs — without requiring a full administrator account.
-
The underlying database engine used by AIS has been upgraded. SQLite3MC (SQLite3 Multiple Ciphers) now replaces SQLite Cipher as the secure database solution. This change brings improved encryption standards and better long-term support, while remaining transparent to end users — no action is required on your part.
-
The Web Admin Logs page has been improved to provide a richer and more informative experience.
