Configure Map Sources

The Map app can display map data from different sources. You can configure sources as base maps or as overlays. During run time, the Map app will display the base map as the main map in background and overlays on top of the base map. If you configure multiple base maps, you can switch between them during the run time, but only one base map can be displayed at a time. You can enable and disable multiple map overlays during run time as well.

The properties of each map source must be configured. For more information about configuring each map source, see Map Source Properties.

To configure the Map app, you must complete three major steps:

• Add your map sources and configure their properties

• Set minimum and maximum zoom percentages to create zoom layers

• Add graphics to map zoom layers and specify their coordinate locations

After configuring your map sources, you need to set the properties of the Map app. For more information about Map app properties, see Configure the MapControl.

To assign map sources to a Map app

1. Open the System Platform IDE and select the Graphic Toolbox tab to show a list of folders containing graphics .

2. Locate the MapApp in the following folder location within the Graphic Toolbox.

   ...\_Default Content\4 Apps\OMI Apps

3. Double-click or tap the MapApp listed in the Graphic Toolbox view to show the Map Settings dialog box.

4. Add map sources.

   1. Select Sources beneath the menu bar.

   2. Click or tap the Provider field to show a drop-down list of map providers and select a provider.

      

      The Configuration field updates to show parameters that must be assigned values for each data provider. For more information about the properties of each map provider, see Map Source Properties.

   3. Click or tap within the Name field to show a data entry field.

   4. Assign a name to the map provider you selected.

   5. Select the row of the map provider whose properties you want to configure.

   6. Assign values to the properties of the map provider listed in the Properties area.

      The map provider properties listed in the Configuration field update to show the properties you selected from the Properties field.

   7. If required, select the OS group-based credential name from the drop down list of the Credential Name field.

      Note: Some map providers do not require user credentials to access their data. In that case, this step can be ignored.

   8. Click or tap the Name field to add another row to the Sources table.

   9. Repeat steps b-h to add all of your map providers to the Map app.

5. Assign zoom levels to your map layers.

   A 0 percent zoom level means no zoom, which is a view of the entire planet. A100 percent zoom level is the maximum zoom supported, which shows a map view at the street level.

   10. Select Zoom Layers beneath the menu bar.

   11. Click or tap within the Name field to show a data entry field.

   12. Assign a name to the layer.

   13. Assign zoom percentage values to the Minimum Zoom and Maximum Zoom fields.

   14. Click or tap the Zoom Layers field to add another row to the Layers table.

   15. Repeat steps b-e to assign zoom level percentages to each map layer.

   16. Select the default layer of the map by selecting it in the Default Layer column.

       

6. Add location graphics to the Map app.

   For more information about the procedure to add location graphics , see Locations of Map Assets.

   17. Select Locations beneath the menu bar.

   18. From the Assets or Toolbox tab, drag and drop a graphics on the Locations grid.

   19. Click the Layer column header to show a drop-down list of layers and assign a layer for the graphic.

   20. Assign the latitude and longitude of the graphic added to the Map app.

   21. Repeat steps b-d until all geographic graphics have been added to the Map app.
