You must enter a valid BI Gateway Server name and the target data source folder name to configure the Analytics Client Data Source Generator.

To configure Analytics Client Data Source Generator

  1. Right-click the Analytics Client Data Source Generator icon on the system tray, and click Configure. The Analytics Client Data Source Generator dialog box appears.

  2. In the BI Gateway Server box, type a valid BI Gateway Server name that is available. The default server name is "localhost".

If the changes are applied for a server name that is invalid or unavailable, a warning message appears. Until you specify a valid server name that is available, no changes are made to the system.

  3. In the Data Source Folder box, browse to select the data source folder name where the Analytics Client Data Source file will be generated. By default, the box displays C:\Documents and Settings\User1\My Documents\My Tableau Repository\Datasources, where "User1" represents the currently logged-in user.

If the default folder <... My Tableau Repository\Datasources> cannot be found, then the default folder shown in the box is the user’s <My Documents> folder.

If you apply the changes on an invalid data source folder name, a warning message appears. No changes to the system occur until you specify a valid data source folder name.

NOTE: The <... My Tableau Repository...> folder structure is created in the <My Documents> only when the BI Gateway Analytics Client is started the first time.

  4. Click Apply. The configuration is saved. If the configuration is successful, then the Apply button becomes unavailable, implying that the configuration is validated and saved.

  5. Click Generate to create the data source files in the target folder.

  6. If you need to discard the configuration changes or re-configure the Analytics Client Data Source Generator, click Cancel.

  7. Click OK to close the Analytics Client Data Source Generator dialog box. This also saves the current configuration.
