The Visual Query function provides the ability to highlight multiple objects in the 3D model, in one or more colors, based on the results of preconfigured data queries. The Visual Query capability takes XR Engage template beyond basic tag highlighting and opens it up to a wider range of use cases for visual interrogation of the digital asset.
Simple to advanced queries
The queries can range from simple to advanced queries.
-
Simple attribute and class-based queries, such as color coding the model according to manufacturer, discipline, or install status.
-
Queries based on association to higher level objects such as systems, modules and work packs.
-
More specialist queries such as construction sequence visualization.
Potential uses
Potential applications include:
-
Design review
-
Fabrication and construction planning and review
-
Commissioning
-
Work planning and execution for operations
-
Risk-based inspection and corrosion monitoring
Requirements
-
AVEVA™ XR Engage needs connection to AVEVA™ Application Service to access and list visual queries.
-
The AVEVA™ Application service connection details must be configured in dataStore > AAS section of the Cadviewer Configuration File (cfg_cadviewer).
Manage visual queries
The visual query functionality is driven by AVEVA Applications Service and AVEVA GCD Creator for creating the Query template. The installation of AVEVA Applications Service contains a plugin that is capable of handling data from AVEVA Asset Information Management (AIM) (on-premise), AVEVA E3D Design, and Microsoft Excel. A visual query is a description of extracted data; for example, pipe systems and their status, extracted from AIM. This information is used in the XR Engage template to color the model elements in the full 3D representation of the asset. For example, different pipe colors for each status.
This is achieved by associating one or more visual templates with the visual query. To create and manage a Visual query template requires using the GCD Creator tool. The visual template is used to query the extracted data that is generated by the visual query and to define the UI elements that are used. An example of UI elements are: name, description, and different filters of the template.

For more details on configuring, creating, and managing Visual query templates, refer to the AVEVA GCD Creator user documentation.
To create visually query from AVEVA Asset Information Management (AIM) Cloud, you need to export data to Microsoft Excel and use Excel to create a Visual query.
Create visual queries
You can created visual queries with the GCD Creator tool. For creating and configuring the Visual queries, refer to the GCD Creator user documentation, which is available in the GCD Creator release. Based on Visual query results, elements in 3D are colored and you can change the color, if needed. The same color will be applied to those same elements on 3D model.
