Normal Vector Measurement

  • Last UpdatedJun 26, 2023
  • 2 minute read

The Normal Vector measure tool measures a distance on the start point surface normal vector. It’s useful, for example, to measure a room size or the distance between two structures.

When the tool is activated, a picking line is shown exiting from the hand device and a distance indicator at its endpoint.

To perform a normal vector measure

  1. Identify the starting moving the hand device

  2. Trigger the Action button. The distance to camera indication disappears and the normal vector distance appears. When you select the first point, a sphere is placed at the start of measure line and the measure line appears in red color while drawing.

  3. Move the hand device to identify the end point. Differently from the point-to-point measure, the end point is calculated as the intersection of the normal vector with the orthogonal plane passing for the point picked by the line. A line is shown connecting start and end point and the current measure is placed over the end position.

  4. Trigger the Action button to fix the end point. The normal vector measure indicator moves to the center of the line. The distance to camera tool appears again. When you select the end point, the second sphere is placed at the end of the measure line.

  5. When the measure line is confirmed, the spheres will be hidden and the line will turn to blue color.

Note The line is confirmed either by exiting the measure tool, or starting to draw a new measure line.
