Connect Tableau Desktop

You can connect Tableau Desktop leveraging the Azure Synapse Analytics Connector.

Connect Tableau Desktop

1. Open Tableau Desktop.

   Note:
   - Microsoft SQL Azure Connector (Azure Synapse Analytics) is available for BI Gateway Analytics Client (OEM version of Tableau Desktop).
   - BI Gateway Analytics Client is shipped with AVEVA BI Gateway.
   - BI Gateway Dashboard Server can be downloaded from AVEVA Knowledge and Support Center website. For more information on the installation process, refer to https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/install.htm.

   The following window appears.

   

2. Click Connect.

   

3. Under Connect to a Server on the left pane, select Azure Synapse Analytics. Alternatively, you can type Azure Synapse Analytics in the Search field and click the link.

4. Click Connect.

   The New Connection dialog box appears.

5. In the Server box, enter the Datastore Server name. Ensure that this value matches the Datastore Server name displayed in the Datastore Connection Information dialog box. For more information, see View datastore connection information.

6. In the Database box, enter the name of the datastore name. Ensure that this value matches the Datastore name displayed in the Datastore Connection Information dialog box. For more information, see View datastore connection information.

7. In the Authentication drop-down list, select Active Directory Password.

8. In the Username and Password boxes, type the user name and password respectively to connect to the database.

9. Click Sign In.

   The connection between Tableau Desktop and Azure Synapse Analytics is established successfully.
