Troubleshooting errors

If you encounter any of the given error messages when you configure the AVEVA BI Gateway model, follow the solution described in the table below:

Error type

Possible cause

Solution

Unable to rename a data source, dimension, or measure.

The new name does not comply with the naming convention for the data source, dimension, or measure.

Provide a name that complies with the naming convention for the respective objects.

The respective editors are open.

Close the respective editors.

The data source, dimension, or measure is in a deployed state.

Undeploy the data source, dimension, or measure.

Unable to delete a data source, dimension, or measure.

The respective editors are open.

Close the respective editors.

The data source, dimension, or measure is in a deployed state.

Undeploy the data source, dimension, or measure.

Data collection from a data source has stopped.

Data source is undeployed.

Deploy the data source.

The data source server is unavailable due to connection failure, or the data source server is not running.

Be sure that the data source connection information is correct, and the data source server is running.

The dimension or measure is renamed in the AVEVA BI Gateway model, but not in the datastore.

The dimension or measure is not redeployed.

Redeploy the dimension or measure. The dimension or measure name is renamed in the datastore only after redeploying.

The state of a dimension is changed to "Warning" or "Pending Changes."

The schema of an associated data source is refreshed and changed.

Redeploy the dimension.

An associated data source is deleted.

Redeploy the dimension.

The dimension configuration is modified.

Redeploy the dimension.

The state of a measure is changed to "Warning" or "Pending Changes."

The schema of an associated data source is refreshed and changed.

Redeploy the measure.

An associated data source is deleted.

Redeploy the measure.

An associated dimension is renamed or deleted, or the dimension configuration is modified.

Redeploy the measure.

The measure configuration is modified.

Redeploy the measure.

Unable to test the connection or retrieve schema from a data source.

The data source server is unavailable due to incorrect connection information, or the data source server is not running.

Be sure that the data source connection information is correct, and the data source server is running.

Not received an invitation email from BI Gateway Azure AD.

The corporate domain is not whitelisted.

  1. Contact AVEVA Knowledge & Support Center to whitelist your corporate domain.

  2. Unassign the BI Gateway roles from the required user groups.

  3. Reassign the BI Gateway roles to the required user groups.

Unable to connect to BI Gateway SQL Azure database from Analytics Clients (Power BI, Tableau, and SSMS).

Customer domain (For example, @<mycorporatedomain>.com) is not whitelisted in the BI Gateway Azure Active Directory.

Contact AVEVA Knowledge & Support Center to whitelist your corporate domain.

Multifactor authentication is not set up for the user in the AVEVA Intelligence Domain.

To connect to BI Gateway SQL Azure database with Power BI:

  1. If you are not an existing user in the Active Directory (AD), contact AVEVA Support for an invitation email. Accept the invite from the AVEVA Intelligence Azure AD to the AVEVA Intelligence domain. This is the domain where the BI Gateway database is hosted.

  2. Whitelist the IP Address of the Client Server in BI Gateway Configuration. For more information about whitelisting, see Whitelist client IP addresses.

  3. Set up multifactor authentication for the AVEVA Intelligence Domain within 14 days of being added to the Azure AD. For more information about setting up multifactor authentication, see Enable Multifactor Authentication.

    Note: If multifactor authentication has expired, contact AVEVA Knowledge & Support Center.

    1. Ensure that your email domain is whitelisted by AVEVA. Contact AVEVA Support to whitelist your email domain.
