Configure time-slicing for a dimension

You can enable time-slicing for a dimension. Time-slicing defines the time periods for which measure calculations are aggregated. A measure can be time-sliced by more than one time-slicing dimension. To configure time-slicing for a dimension, you must define which fields represent the start and end time or start time and duration for time-slices.

If you have a time-defining dimension that produces time slices that are overlapping, and you are using a time-based relationship, aggregate calculation results are produced for the time overlaps. There is an aggregate calculation for each time slice. Be aware that reports based on these aggregate calculations may include the overlap results and therefore, include duplicated data. This behavior does not occur for key-based relationships.

Configure time-slicing for a dimension

1. Open the AVEVA BI Gateway Model Builder.

2. Click the Add icon in the Floating Action Buttons menu and then click the Dimension icon. A new dimension is added in the AVEVA BI Gateway model with a default name and the Dimension editor appears in the right pane.

3. Click the Advanced tab.

   

4. Select the Time slicing check box to enable time-slicing for the dimension.

   

5. In the Start time list, click a field representing the start time of each time-slice of the dimension. The Start time list shows the DateTime fields of the dimension.

6. Configure the end time field for time-slices by doing one of the following:

   • In the End time list, click a field representing the end time of each time-slice of the dimension. The End time list shows the DateTime fields of the dimension.

   • In the Duration list, click a field or type a number representing the duration of each time-slice of the dimension. The Duration list shows the numeric fields (Int16, Int32, and Int64) of the dimension. Then, in the Unit list, select a unit of time for the duration. You can provide a minimum period of one millisecond and a maximum period of 366 days.

     

7. Click Save.
