An alarm is a signal generated by a monitoring or control system, such as a DCS/PLC/SCADA system, that indicates an abnormal condition that requires a response or corrective action.
In a P&ID drawing, the Alarm symbol is available in the Instrumentation – Off-Line palette.

After associating alarms with instrumentation functions, users can easily identify and manage the alarms related to each instrumentation function.
The Instrumentation – Off-Line palette also includes a symbol that defines multiple alarms at once. See Alarm assembly approach for more information.
