Create a pressure measurement in P&ID

A process user (ENG.PROC) performs the first part of this procedure, and an instrumentation user (ENG.INST) performs the second part.

Create a pressure measurement

  1. ENG.PROC: Place the Field - Discrete symbol from the Instrumentation – Off Line palette in the P&ID.

  2. Select the Process Instrument Connection Line from the Lines – Instrumentation symbol palette and draw a line from the Instrumentation Function to the equipment or line.

    This connection ensures that the system correctly populates the pressure instrumentation function properties.

    The application automatically sets the Ref Process Owner reference association. In the Pressure Measurement Functions grid, the application displays this association in the Process Equipment / Line No. column.

    The application also displays additional information in the Process Equipment Properties or Pipeline Properties sub-grids. The information is read-only and provides context required for pressure instrumentation function design.

    Note: The Field - Discrete symbol in the Instrumentation – Off-Line palette uses the Instrumentation Function class. When an object is placed on the PI&D and named, the application lists it in the Pressure Measurement Functions grid as an Instrumentation Function.

  3. ENG.INST or ENG.PROC: Select the instrument function in the canvas and then select Reclassify and set it to a Pressure Instrumentation Function.

    The pressure instrumentation object provides access to the main components of this measurement configuration, including the pressure sensor and pressure transmitter.

    Important: Until the user reclassifies the instrumentation function as a Pressure Instrumentation Function, the application does not display pressure-specific parts as valid options for pressure measurement creation.

  4. (Optional) If you need P&ID to display all the components (physical parts) related to the instrumentation function, add the required components by dragging the appropriate objects from the Instrumentation – Instrument Function Parts palette.

    For example, if the transmitter needs to be displayed in the P&ID, drag and drop the Pressure Transmitter part and then select the item the transmitter belongs to.

    The Instrumentation user can now access the relevant parts, which can be viewed in the Pressure Sensor and Pressure Transmitter sub-grids, and in the measurement datasheet specification.
