Create a flow measurement in P&ID

A process user (ENG.PROC) performs the first part of this procedure, and an instrumentation user (ENG.INST) performs the second part.

Create a flow measurement

  1. ENG.PROC: Place the Flow Instrumentation Function symbol from the Instrumentation – Measurement Functions palette and the Flow Sensor symbol from the Instrumentation - In-Line palette in the P&ID.

  2. Select the Process Instrument Connection Line from the Lines – Instrumentation symbol palette, and draw a line from the flow instrumentation function to the in-line flow sensor.

This connection ensures that the system correctly populates the properties in the Flow Instrumentation Functions grid and sets the Related Instruments reference association.

  3. ENG.INST: Set the Sensor reference by entering the tag number of the flow sensor (displayed in the Related Instruments column) in the Sensor column.

  4. (Optional) If you need P&ID to display all the components (physical parts) related to the instrumentation function, add the required components by dragging the appropriate objects from the Instrumentation – Instrument Function Parts palette.

For example, if the transmitter needs to be displayed in the P&ID, drag and drop the Flow Transmitter part and then select the item the transmitter belongs to.

The Instrumentation user can now access the relevant parts, which can be viewed in the Flow Sensor and Flow Transmitter sub-grids, and in the flow measurement datasheet specification.
