Create a temperature measurement on a P&ID

A process user (ENG.PROC) performs this procedure.

Create a temperature measurement

  1. Place the Temperature Instrumentation Function symbol from the Instrumentation – Measurement Functions palette in the P&ID.

  2. Select the Process Instrument Connection Line from the Lines – Instrumentation symbol palette and draw a line from the temperature instrumentation function to the equipment or line.

This connection ensures that the system correctly populates the temperature instrumentation function properties.

The application automatically sets the ref process owner reference association and displays it in the Process Equipment / Line No. column.

The application also displays additional information in Process Equipment Properties or Pipeline Properties. The information is read-only and provides context required for temperature instrumentation function design.

  3. (Optional) If you need P&ID to display all the components (physical parts) related to the instrumentation function, add the required components by dragging the appropriate objects from the Instrumentation – Instrument Function Parts palette.

For example, if the sensor part needs to be displayed in the P&ID, drag and drop the Temperature Element part and then select the item it belongs to.

The Instrumentation user can now access the relevant parts, which can be viewed in the Temperature Element sub-grid and in the temperature measurement datasheet specification.
