Learn how to create Windows accounts for PI Data Collection Manager and PI Connector Relay

For PI Connector Relay version 2.8.2 or newer: During installation, the system configures a passwordless virtual service account by default. No additional configuration is required. Alternatively, user-created Windows accounts can be used .

For PI Data Collection Manager and old versions of PI Connector Relay, create a Windows account to run the service.

  • Create the accounts.

    Note: The accounts should not be a member of the host's local administrators group.

  • If the PI Connector Relay and PI Data Collection Manager hosts exist in the same domain as PI Server destinations or within trusted domains, create separate dedicated domain accounts for the PI Data Collection Manager and PI Connector Relay services. You must have domain administrator privileges to create domain accounts.

  • If the PI Connector Relay and PI Data Collection Manager hosts are not in the same domain as PI Server destinations, in different domains, or part of a workgroup, create identical local accounts for the PI Connector Relay and PI Data Collection Manager identities on every machine that hosts PI Data Collection Manager, PI Connector Relay, Data Archive server, and PI AF server.PI Data Collection Manager
