Request registration from a connector to PI Data Collection Manager

Before a connector can be added to a data flow, collect data, and send the data to any PI Server, a registration request must be sent from the PI Connector Administration site to PI Data Collection Manager. This procedure could be performed by a separate user, such as a field technician who installs and configures the connector to collect data from a data source.

  1. Install the connector. For more information, see the user guide for the specific connector.

  2. From the Windows start menu, select All Programs > PI System > PI Connector for connector_name Administration.

Note: If you are using a remote computer, enter the following URL into the browser's address bar, using the connector's IP or hostname and port: https://IP_or_hostname:port/ui

  3. In the PI Connector Administration site, select Set Up Connector.

  4. Enter the following settings:

    • Registration Server Address: The address and port number of the PI Data Collection Manager administration web service, in the format:

      https://IP_or_hostname:port

Note: When the connector and PI Data Collection Manager are on different networks, the IP_or_hostname of the PI Data Collection Manager must be an IP address or the fully qualified hostname.

Tip: You can copy the registration server address directly from PI Data Collection Manager. In PI Data Collection Manager, select Menu icon to open the menu, select Settings > Environment Information, and then copy the address shown.

    • Registration Server User Name and Registration Server Password: The user name (in the format domain\user_name) and password for a user who belongs to the "PI Trusted Installers" Windows group on the PI Data Collection Manager host.

Note: If the connector is running on an untrusted network that was installed by a third party, create a user with only the minimum privileges required to access the PI Data Collection Manager host—that is, a user who belongs to the "PI Trusted Installers" Windows group on the PI Data Collection Manager host—and provide the third party with that user's login information.

    • Description: A description of the connector. This field is optional.

  5. Select Request Registration.
