Learn about the configuring data collection workflow

To add and configure the necessary data collection components, perform the following procedure.

  1. Add or select a connector or OMF application.

    For a connector, perform the following steps:

    1. Set up a connector and request registration. See Request registration from a connector to PI Data Collection Manager.

    2. In PI Data Collection Manager, approve the registration of and configure the connector. See Authorize a connector.

    3. Add one or more data sources from PI Data Collection Manager. See Add a data source.

      Alternatively, you can add a data source from the PI Connector Administration site. In either case, the data source displays in PI Data Collection Manager.

    4. Select the data source contents from discovered data. In this step, you select specific data, write custom queries, or customize existing queries to specify the types of data to collect. See Discover data source contents.

  2. Add or select one or more relays. See Add a PI Connector Relay.

  3. Add or select one or more destination servers. See Add a destination.

  4. Specify which relays and destination servers a connector or OMF application's data flows to. See Complete a connector data flow for connectors or Complete an OMF application data flow for OMF applications.
