To configure data flow from a data source to a PI Server, you must install PI Data Collection Manager, PI Connector Relay, and the connectors themselves. You can install all of these on the same host computer, but as a best practice, consider installing them on different hosts. Installing on different hosts allows you to expand your data-collection capabilities without overloading any host's resources.

OMF applications differ from connectors in that OMF applications do not need to be installed first to configure their data flow.
