Create paired interface instances for failover

Before enabling UniInt failover, configure the primary and backup interface instances for failover as nearly-identical copies of the same interface. Create the interface instances using PI ICU.
Multiple instances of an interface may use the same executable (.exe) file without copying and renaming the interface executable file. PI ICU assigns a new service ID to each interface instance to distinguish it from other copies of the interface that use the same executable. The service ID then becomes part of the interface service name.
-
Use PI ICU to configure the first interface instance.
-
Create a second interface instance on another machine.
-
Copy the contents of the batch file for the first interface instance and paste them in the batch file of the second interface instance, or use PI ICU to import the batch file on the second interface instance.
Copying or importing the batch file ensures the instances are identical.
-
Verify that both instances can collect data.
Note: Do not run both instances simultaneously.
After you create the identical interface instances, configure buffering.
