PI Universal Interface UniInt Framework

Performance and status points

UniInt provides the following options for monitoring the status and performance of an interface instance:

  • Health points

PI points that track the interface and data source statuses and other interface-specific metrics. Health points can be configured in PI ICU and viewed in PI System visualization tools such as PI SMT, PI ProcessBook, or PI Coresight. Configuring health points is the recommended method for monitoring interfaces.

OSIsoft recommends using health points to track interface status.

  • Performance counter points

PI points that store data from Windows performance counters. Windows performance counters can be viewed in Windows Performance Monitor. Performance counter points require PI Performance Monitor Interface to collect and archive data from Windows Performance Monitor.

Windows performance counter points provide real-time information about the performance of the operating system, application, service, or driver related to interface operation. Performance counter points can be configured to provide a more detailed level of performance information than health points.

  • UniInt performance points

Interface-specific PI points that track how long it takes an interface to complete a scan for a particular scan class.

  • I/O rate points

Track the average rate of data collection.

  • Failover status points

Track status information for UniInt failover.

  • PI Interface Status Utility (PI ISU) points

Required for server-level failover configuration for PI to PI Interface. A PI ISU watchdog point only monitors a single PI point, and is not recommended for monitoring interface health.

  • OMF Health Messaging

PI points store information about the health of the interface. These points can be stored either in PI System or in CONNECT.
