Service hardening

When considering your vulnerability to cyber security threats, OSIsoft recommends making Windows service hardening a primary focus. Service hardening increases your ability to defend against cyber security threats by enforcing the principle of least privileges on Windows services. Windows services are only granted the permissions necessary to maintain functionality. This approach reduces attack surface area (and damage potential) should a cyber attack occur.
To better understand the implications of upgrading and how to manually harden services, see Securing PI Interfaces with Service Hardening.
Note: In the UniInt 4.6 doc, the interface applies these techniques on a new install, but the upgrade will not provide these benefits as stated in the referenced KB. However, if you upgrade from an earlier version of the interface, service hardening must be applied manually, as explained in the KB.
