Generating the Emulator Files using TriStation User Interface

Generating the Emulator Files using TriStation User Interface

The steps below open a TriStation PT2 file, connect to the emulator, and then download the PT2 file data to the emulator. This process will generate the needed emulator files for the TRISIM engine. The included PT2 file (Simple_Flowsheet.PT2) is a simple tank level control loop. The controls will auto-start a pump and produce a control valve demand.

NOTE: Read the AVEVA Simulation for Triconex Systems – User Guide sections Simulation Configuration and TRISIM Engine before proceeding.

  1. Click the Start button on the lower left hand corner of the screen.

  2. From the displayed menu, select Programs.

  3. From the displayed menu to the right, select Triconex.

  4. From the displayed menu to the right, select TriStation 1131.

  5. From the File dropdown menu, select Open Project.

  6. Open "C:\SimSci\TRISIM\user\Simple_Flowsheet.PT2".

Note: If the PT2 file was saved in an earlier version of TriStation, prior to receiving the Logon popup, a Query menu will appear prompting the user to upgrade the file. Select Yes to proceed or No to cancel and back up the file.

  7. Place the cursor in the Log on Name: field and enter MANAGER.

  8. Place the cursor in the Password: field and enter PASSWORD.

  9. Click the Log On button. The selected project will appear.

Note: If the PT2 file was saved in an earlier version of TriStation, a query popup will appear asking the user to update the libraries. Select Yes to proceed or No to cancel (and back up the file). Resolve any errors or warnings prior to downloading the files.

  10. Within the Controller Workspace, double click on Emulator Panel to display the emulator panel on the right hand side.

  11. Connect to the TRISIM Emulator by clicking on the Connect icon. The dialog stating that TriStation is connecting to the TR1EMCodeEmulator emulator appears.

  12. Once connected, download the control configuration to the Emulator by clicking on the Download All icon. You will be prompted about performing a "Download All". Select the Yes button.

  13. Once the download is complete, verify that the four default files (TriStation Emulator version 1.4 and newer) have been generated. The default directory location is: C:\SIMSCI\DSSnn\Simulations\<SIMULATION NAME>, where <Simulation Name> is the name of the simulation in which the TRISIM engine exists. For current TriStation versions the default filenames are TR1EMCodeEmulator.xxx.

Note: The name of the emulation files downloaded to the DYNSIM simulation will be dependent on the "TriStation emulator node name" configured within the TRISIM engine configuration shown below. You must first configure each TRISIM engine and then download each set of emulator files from TriStation. When multiple TRISIM engines are used in one simulation file, each TRISIM engine name and each "TriStation emulator node name" must be unique. The emulator download from TriStation produces four emulator files in the location specified by the TRISIM engine configuration "Directory path for emulation files".

  14. Determine the scan rate of the PT2 file within TriStation: Select the Application Tab within TriStation. Double click on Implementation. Note the Scan Time (in milli-seconds). Make sure this scan time corresponds to the Simulation Time Step of the corresponding TRISIM engine within the DYNSIM Engine Configuration window (seconds). Remember to convert milli-seconds to seconds. Example: in the image above, the Simulation time step is 0.25 seconds (corresponding to a Scan Time of 250 ms) within the TRISIM engine configuration.

  15. In the TriStation application, disconnect from the emulator file.
