In the previous section, we used the Override feature in the cross reference list to malfunction a valve. In DYNSIM, most objects include built in malfunction modes. Follow these steps to malfunction the motor, MTL1.

  1. In the Tank Level Control flowsheet, highlight MTL1.

  2. When the object is highlighted, the New Malfunction button becomes active. Click it to see the MTL1 Malfunction dialog box.

  3. In the MTL1 Malfunction dialog box, change the Failure Mode to Trip and click the Save button.

  4. Click the Activate button. Notice that MTL1 – Trip appears under Active Malfunctions and the MTL1 motor speed goes to zero and a red colored M appears next to the motor.

  5. Select Deactivate and close the MTL1 Malfunction dialog box.
