AVEVA™ System Platform

vSphere memory allocation

  • Last UpdatedJun 03, 2025

As is the case with Hyper-V, memory should not be shared in VSphere. To ensure that memory is allocated to the VM, enable the option to Reserve all guest memory (All locked).

This ensures that the guest operating system running on the VM always has the specified amount of memory available.

Reserving all guest memory means that the allocated memory will not be shared or used by other virtual machines or the host system.

Steps to reserve memory for a VM in vSphere

  1. Log in to vSphere Client.

  2. Navigate to the VM and right-click the VM you want to configure, then select Edit Settings.

    • Memory: Select the amount of RAM in GB.

  3. Under the Memory section, edit Reservation:

    1. Reservation: Check Reserve all guest memory (all locked).

    2. Limit: Make sure to configure the Limit as “Unlimited.”

    3. Shares: As a minimum, make sure Shares is set to "Normal".

  4. Save the settings and power on the VM (if it was off).
