Create and work with an Engineering Change Order (ECO)

Various elements can be updated within an ECO, though an ECO must first be created as the container to keep track of the revision. The ECO process includes:

  • Documents

  • Tags

  • BOM

Prerequisites

  • The asset must first exist

  • The user belongs to the project where the asset exists

Create a New ECO

  1. From the main menu, select ECO and then Create New ECO.

  2. Enter the Title.

  3. Select the Add Item icon.

  4. Choose the item type the ECO applies to.

  5. Select the Search icon to display available items.

  6. Select OK to confirm.

  7. From the Impact Matrix tab, click the + sign to automatically present the BOMs attached to the tag(s).

Release a BOM from the ECO

The BOM must first be released to planning before updates can be made to the tag.

  1. For each BOM, right-click the item and select Revise.

  2. Open the Signoffs tab, select VOTE NOW, then choose Submit to Planning and select Complete. A new BOM revision is not yet created at this stage.

    1. Select VOTE NOW again, choose Start Work, and select Complete. This promotes the ECO to an in-work state and creates a new BOM revision in a Preliminary state. This new revision number appears in the New Number field.

      1. To release the ECO, select Close Change, enter your password, and select Complete.

Note: Validate the change by reviewing BOM is in a Released State and that the system revision number has been updated.

      2. The new BOM revision for the tag is released and the previous BOM revision is superseded.

Revise a ECO to update a Tag

        1. In the Impact Matrix, select the Tag and select Revise.

        2. Open the Signoffs tab, select VOTE NOW, then choose Submit to Planning and select Complete. A new dataset is not yet created at this stage.

        3. Select VOTE NOW again, choose Start Work, and select Complete.

        4. The ECO is now in in-work and a new dataset item is created with the same item number as the Tag. The dataset appears and is editable, allowing users to update the properties.

        5. Once complete, release the ECO by selecting Close Change, enter your password, and select Complete.

Note: Validate the change by reviewing the updated property values and that the system revision number has been updated.

        6. The updated dataset is released, updating the Tag with latest changes on the new Revision.
