Select Microsoft Excel format to export point information into an Excel workbook.
Note: To use this format, Microsoft Excel must be installed on the PI APS node.
Exporting into an Excel workbook is noticeably slower than exporting in CSV format. If you know that no attribute values contain commas, the CSV format exports faster and can be opened by Excel. However, if any exported attribute values contain commas, the native Excel format is required for the exported attributes to be properly loaded into cells.
Note: To export into an Excel workbook, the number of points of each category selected for export must be less than the maximum number of rows supported by Excel on a worksheet.
Directory for Export File(s)
The Directory for export file(s): box shows the folder where the export file is created. The default folder is the
folder created by PI APS for the interface. The
button opens a dialog box that allows a different folder to be chosen.
Export the Following Types of Points
The Export the following types of points: area contains a check box for each of the point categories that can be selected on the main window for display in the grid. Unlike the grid, which can only display one category at a time, any combination of categories can be exported in the same operation. A separate worksheet is created in the Excel workbook for each exported point category. Each worksheet contains the columns that would appear on the main window's grid for the corresponding point category.
Apply 'Search Criteria' from Main Form
The Apply 'Search Criteria' from main form check box controls whether all points in each category are exported or only a subset. If this box is cleared, all points in each category are exported. If this box is selected, the Tag Search Criteria on the main window are applied to each point category in the same manner as when that point category is loaded into the grid. Since there is only one set of Tag Search Criteria, it applies to all selected point categories. Only the Tag pattern applies to available points, hidden points, PI point edits, or PI point deletes.
Export
Click the Export button to create an Excel workbook containing the selected point categories.
Open Excel Point File filename
The Open Excel Point File filename area title shows the name of the Excel workbook file that is created. If this file exists in the selected directory, the Open Excel File button in this area is available. Clicking the button opens the workbook in Excel.
