Folder and file permissions for PI APS

PI APS creates, reads, and writes files in folders under %PIHOME%\APS. The %PIHOME%\APS folder is created by the installation kit. The Windows accounts used to run the PI APS Configuration Utility and the PI APS Synchronization Engine service must have permission to read or write the %PIHOME%\APS folder (that is, list the folder contents, create files or subfolders, and delete files or subfolders). Other than the executable file, the PI APS Synchronization Trigger service does not access files under %PIHOME%\APS.

The PI APS Synchronization Engine and PI APS Synchronization Trigger service write messages to the pipc.log files in %PIHOME%\dat. Therefore, the PI APS services must have permission to read or write the %PIHOME%\dat folder. Since the PI APS Configuration Utility logs messages through the PI SDK messaging service, no specific Windows access privileges are needed for it to log messages.
