To create an Edge Connector, you must have either the Owner or the Edge Connectors Admin role. For more information, see AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum cloud roles and permissions.
The Edge Connector can be created from a web browser on any machine then later installed on the server where it will run. Creation and installation can be completed by different users on different machines if required. For more information, see Edge Connector hardware requirements.
The Edge Connector software is downloaded directly from the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum web dashboard through CONNECT. Install one Edge Connector for each location (LAN).
In AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Administration, Dabacon databases are not accessed directly through the file system by component users. AVEVA recommends that Dabacon database cache storage areas on Edge Connector devices are accessible only by the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum services running on the Edge Connector and are not shared.
To ensure reliable performance and efficient resource utilization, review the hardware requirements and recommendations for Edge Connector servers and related components. An under-provisioned system may not have sufficient storage, CPU, RAM, or bandwidth, while an over-provisioned system can increase procurement, management, and maintenance costs.
Important: You must exclude all Edge Connector folders from virus scans. For more information, see Network security.
Each Edge Connector includes a Cloudstore folder that stores non-Dabacon project files for Spectrum projects. The contents are automatically synced to all Edge Connectors the project is available on. See Edge Connector Cloudstore folder for more information.
