Create and Configure an Edge Connector

For the creation of an Edge Connector, you need either the Owner or the Edge Connectors Admin role. For more information, see AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Cloud Roles and Permissions.

The Edge Connector can be created from a web browser on any machine. It can then be installed on the server where it will run (for more information, see Edge Connector Hardware Requirements). The creation and installation can be completed by different people, on different machines if required.

The Edge Connector software is downloaded directly from the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum web dashboard through CONNECT. You must install one Edge Connector per location (LAN).

In AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Administration, Dabacon databases are not accessed directly via the file system by all component users. It is recommended that Dabacon database cache storage areas on Edge Connector devices are only accessible by the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum services running on the Edge Connector, and are not shared.

To ensure that your system performs well and is reliable, and is neither resource-starved nor over-provisioned, 'a list of hardware minimums and recommendations for Edge Connector server machines and other components is provided. An under-provisioned system may not have sufficient storage, CPU, RAM, or bandwidth resources to provide adequate performance. At the other end of the scale, excess capacity can result in increased costs related to procurement, management, and maintenance.
