Data Archive Administration

Archive shifts

The primary archive is the archive that receives current data. At some point, you'll need an archive shift so that a new archive file is created and becomes the primary archive. The archive shift is triggered when the primary archive is nearly full.

Note: During an archive shift, you cannot add, edit, or delete points.

You can handle archive shifts in the following ways.

  • Automatic archive shifts: The archive shift is triggered when the primary archive is nearly full.

  • Scheduled archive shifts: Specify a regular schedule for archive shifts--daily, weekly, or monthly. For more information on when scheduled shifts take place, see Schedule archive shifts.

Note: If you schedule archive shifts, then automatic shifts do not occur. However, you can still force an archive shift, if necessary.
