Automatic archive creation tuning parameters

The following parameters specify the behavior of automatic archive creation.

Tuning Parameter

Description

Archive_AutoArchiveFileRoot

Specifies the path and file name prefix for new archives. For example, a setting of C:\PI\arc\auto_ specifies that new archives are created in the C:\PI\arc folder with a file name prefix of auto_. Archive_AutoArchiveFileFormat and Archive_AutoArchiveFileExt specify how the remainder of the archive’s name is formed.

Archive_AutoArchiveFileExt

Specifies the file extension for the archive file. The default value is .arc.

Archive_AutoArchiveFileFormat

Specifies the generated portion of the file name for the archive file. Possible values are:

0 - _D_Mon_YYYY_H_M_S.ext

1 - prefix_YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS.ext

2 - prefix_UTCSECONDS.ext

Where prefix is the file name prefix specified in Archive_AutoArchiveFileRoot and .ext is the file extension specified in Archive_AutoArchiveFileExt.

Archive_AutoArchiveFileSize

Specifies the size of new primary archives that are created via automatic archive creation. When set to 0 (the default setting), the size of the new primary archive is always the same as the current primary archive. When set to any other value, specifies the size of the new primary archive when an automatic archive create shift occurs. If you make the size smaller than the current primary archive, the specified size must be large enough to satisfy the primary records for points currently in use.

Note: On a Data Archive server, you can set tuning parameters by using PI SMT. Open SMT and click Operation > Tuning Parameters. Click the Archive tab, double click the tuning parameter you want to edit, enter the value you want, click OK.

If the Archive_AutoArchiveFileRoot is modified, and the Archive subsystem does not have proper permissions to this new path, then run the command pidiag -updateFolderSecurity to set proper permissions.
