Modification of PI point classes

Note: Modifying point classes sets can trigger a cascade of edits through many points and across many group and user boundaries. Modify point classes only when absolutely necessary. Before you begin, back up your system.
You can convert a point from one class to another. Data collection can continue for this point even though the method of collection may change. For example, you can convert a Totalizer point, which belongs to the Totalizer point class and is populated by PI Totalizer Subsystem, to a Performance Equation point, which belongs to the Classic point class and is populated by the performance equation scheduler.
You can modify point attributes in the following ways:
-
Change a point's point class to another point class that contains the desired attributes. To do this, change the point's PtClassName attribute.
-
Change the point class explicitly by deleting and adding attribute sets.
-
Change the point class implicitly by modifying existing attribute sets. Modification of an attribute set triggers a cascade of edits through all point classes that use the attribute set.
-
Both implicit and explicit point class modifications trigger edits of all points belonging to the modified point class. If you do not want to modify all points in a point class, change the point classes of individual points instead.
